I have just had the tracking done on my car should the wheels all point in the same direction when the steering wheel is straight?

Having the tracking done doesn't always mean your steering wheel will be straight.

depends what equipment is used, the best is 4 wheel laser alignment - that will put your steering wheel straight, the front wheels are both adjusted according to the rears. think its about the most accurate you can get.

I thought a steering wheel anchor is used to keep the steering wheel in some sort of central position while the tracking is being done?...maybe they didn't do that? and the steering wheel has been free to move about as they've adjusted the track rod ends etc...?

Well got it back from kwickfit its a lot better but still not perfect. Holding the steering wheel straight it still pulls slightly to the right as apposed to left. Am i hoping for to much now its lowered and wider wheels,at least it looks like the wheels are pointing in the same direction!

if its been lowered u'll b lucky 2 get it spot on best bet would be 2 get a computerised alignment check it costs a bit more but that'll check your castor and camber settings a 4 laser alignment only alligns your front wheels to the back i work at kwik fit and as a rule our depot wont track a car if its been lowered leads 2 all kinds of problems the autodata chart only gives the readings when the geomitry hasnt been altered
