Cannot see any due to my eyes being full of crud from underneath!!
Get some eye goggles! seriously....you DO NOT want bits of rust etc getting in your eyes. No one cares what you look like when you're under the car, but if you don't wear them then at some point you won't be able to see them if they're laughing at you anyway!
I've just looked at my spare bias valve (yet to fit it..), one end is normal 'nut shaped' , and the other (where the screw thread protrudes) has flats on either side, not sure of the sizes tho, sorry spanners are in the car!

I can confirm that - having just fitted braided hoses today! The worst bit I found was getting off and re-fitting the spring clip that slides in to hold the pipe assembly. Not much choice but to lever the clips off with a large flat-bladed screwdriver. I tried levering it back on but this was hopeless - as was trying to smack it back home with a hammer. What I ended up doing was using an adjustable pipe-wrench with its jaws opened enough to get round the back of the modulator coupling so I could squeeze the spring clip in.
