Rear brakes
Right I decided to adjust the handbrake today, as its been getting really s***e of late, was at my friends the other day and had to leave it in gear as i was parked on a hill and the car kept rolling down
Anyways, got as far as the part where you adjust the brakes through the hole in the disc when i noticed something wasnt right, took the brake disc off and out dropped two pins and springs, I had a look and the hole the pin goes into has rusted to bits and wont hold in place, this is bad right? Anyways I managed to get one pin in and then the other ive fabricated a temp solution, is this a common problem with the rear brak shoes??? Think Im going to need a whole new rear brake drum/shoe assembly...

BETTER TO HAVE A CALIBRA AND NOT NEED ONE, THAN NEED A CALIBRA AND NOT HAVE ONE!!!

been there done that ..Vauxhall no longer stock the original pins. I was going to change the backplate and went to order it. I know the parts guy and he mentioned it was unusual to order that part, told him the reason and he got the mechanic through who showed me what they do .
just go and buy a pin and spring kit
and instead of going in from the front to hold the shoes on...go in from the rear.
you will get one pin in no problem , but the one is blocked by the hub
slacken the two top bolts ...bend the pin a bit and bend the backplate a bit as well, you can now get the pin through , straighting it all up and tighten the bolts
alternately you can weld up the hole...or use a washer with nut and bolt
did mine about 3 years ago now and have been fine ever since using the pins from the back
only I would do the both sides ..did one side and the other went a few weeks after it so ended up having to do the same thing
