Fuel Pump Not Working!!

by clark607 » Wed Oct 10, 2007 9:37 pm

Hi there everyone!

I have finaly got my car back after 3 weeks in the garage. But now everything is back together, i turn the key and the pump dont work and wont start. i have tried jump starting, even bump starting but still nothing.
I have checked fuse No:11 but thats fine.
I have changed the relay a few months back so i dont think it is that.

Have the garage missed re-fitting a cable?
Battery fault maybe?
any ideas?

i have checked the connections to the pump and i also gave the relay a tap when the ignition was on. still nothing.
but i recently got the car back from the garage after a headgasket change and now nothing??
i had to toe the car back home.
could there be a cable that is not connected in the engine bay?
it was a second hand (scrappy) relay that i replaced it with.

unplug the fuel pump and use a voltmeter to see if you getting power to the pump, you will need someone to turn the engine over with the key as you do this as the relay only supplies power if the engine is turning over. if your getting power to the pump then the pump must be dead, if not you could try running a temporary live to the pump and see if it starts .

i have tried a brand new battery, also went and got a new relay still nothing!
So i tried a power supply to the pump and the pump works fine.
so my guess is that there is a problem with cable's in the engine bay.
the starter motor make a wining noise but does not turn over.
My friend drove my car while i have been away and said that it stuck on when started and so he replaced the starter motor. but still makes the same noise and stays on after you turn the ignition off for about 2 secs.
Any ideas???
Help please!!
