Traction Control Fault Codes

by fraggie » Fri Dec 07, 2007 1:39 pm

Hi guys, im trying to read the traction control fault code on my V6. I have been told to short out pins A and J on the ADL plug.

Unfortunately ive got there and pin J doesn't appear to have a metal connector :(

Am i looking at the wrong plug or something or is there another reason why i cant read the codes?

Cheers

Bill

Is your abs light on also?
I'm not certain, but i think on the v6 assuming the abs light isnt on, it narrows the fault codes down to just one anyway, the throttle motor open circuit.
If the abs light is on, then read the abs codes and fix the abs fault and that should make the TC fault go away too.

no the abs isn't on at all.

TC light stays on permanently and doesn't go out no matter what i do with the switch. Whats the throttle motor open circuit? Is it the control unit fubar or the switch?

its the motor on the engine that operates the traction control... i havnt ever seen a cally with TC to know how it all works properly or to point you how to fix it.. I believe Jay used to have a lot of experience with it, i'm not sure if he still checks the forums but a search, or a PM to him may help if no one else offers up any info.

Checking for Traction control codes only works on very early V6's (93/94)

Must be a bit later then :)

Not much you can do with a buggered T/C motor other then to strip them down and clean up the carbon bushes or take pot luck with a second hand unit.

99% of the time its the bushes in the motor.

here's an archived link to V6Calibra.com but no pics, might be of use to you -

I had the same problems a while back. Had the abs light on as well though. Got the abs sorted but tc light stayed on. Went to local scrappy and got hold of a tc body from a saab, which is the same engine as the v6 and just swapped them over. Worked first time and only cost me a tenner. I've still got the original and at some stage I'm gonna clean it up and change the brushes. On the old v6 website that the archive is about it gives you a guide how to do the refurbishment. I found the easiest way to get the small brass arm off was to use long nose pliers and just lever them under the arm. It sort of slipped off. I'll get round to changing the brushes and put it back on and see how it goes?
