Brake lamp on dash

Hi all,

Sorry to be a pain in the a55 again but the brake warning lamp on the dash comes on as soon as I start the car. This has been the same since I got it. The lad who I bought the car off says that the handbrake cable needs sorting on the passenger side rear. Would this be the cause of the lamp being on? Its only because when I depress the brake pedal (I mean push it in - not tell it that it needs counselling or anything lol) the lamp goes out until the next time I start the car.

Any ideas?

Thats what its meant to do it checks ghat all the lights are working correctly. Once the brakes have been depressed the light goes out showing that all is well.

Yeah but surely the light shouldnt stay on until the brake is pressed?

Just never seen that on a car before

Always had cars that did an internal check and then flagged it up via the dash lamp if there was a problem.

Ok - am happy if thats the norm

Which version of Vec? I have had a B-facelift one and a C.....neither did that! Vauxhall world is nuts! LOL! Not in a bad way - just very diff to the Ford world that I am used to

I am loving the Cally though - quick off the mark and lovely to cruise in

That's exactly what the Calibra does - its called a check control system.

When the ignition is switched on all check control lamps light up, If all the monitored systems are ok they go out again after around 4 seconds.

The brake fluid level indicator goes out when the engine starts to run. The brake lamp indicator goes out once the lamps have been checked by the check control system following operation of the brake pedal.

check the break fluid it comes on when its to low
