Yea I know what your saying but its not an easy thing to reinforce because of the shape of it. Was originally going to just cut the middle section to fit the rad but im probably better having the whole thing removable. The other option im thinking is to dump it completely and make a tubular front section.

do the whole thing removable like a mrk2 golf ... they're strong enough as is and that'll give you loads of room

Just been catching up on your thread. Great work!!

Each photo speaks a thousand words and also represents dozens of hours labour and frustration in a freezing cold garage ;)

Look forward to seeing all the hard work in the flesh :)

Your Dam right their Simon. The pictures don't always show the amount of work that often goes into doing the simplist of jobs but thats modification for you (or more likely me being anal about things  ).

Big thanks to Richymotor and Jon coming down in the Cally Turbo yesterday to give me a hand. Wasn't too imprest that they got me out of bed at stupid oclock with a raging hangover but we made some good progress over the day.

First off was to strip everything back out from the front of the car and start grinding. was a case of cutting and trial fitting until things fitted perfectly.

Image

Oil cooler and rad went forward as far as possible and trial fitting the manifold I was literally mm's away from it fitting so the only thing for it was to cut the studs.

Image

And this is how it looks in place, still need to make up some brackets for the rad and relocate the pas cooler as its 3mm too wide in the current location

And while some of us worked on late into the night, the grinding had definately taken its toll on Jon

Well its nearly their. Spent most of the weekend bolting everything back on and its starting to look more like an engine now :D

Its booked in to have the exhaust made Tuesday but I think im going to have to delay it for a week to get everything finished off, I still havent worked out how to transport it yet either lol. Gonna make things very tight if im gonna make it to PV including running it in. Not helped that im away for the bank holiday.

Anyways, this is how its looking...

Finally getting close to finishing the rebuild. Car should be back in the Country tomorrow and I can spend the weekend finishing things off. Need to do the electrics, bumpers, relocate fuel reg, sort out the interior and fit all the gauges, fill everything up with oil and hopefully start it without too many problems. Then its tax, mot and insurance time.

Hopefully make it to PVS but I doubt I would have been able to put any miles on it so I dont expect to be running the strip this year
