KNOCKING THROUGH STEERING
Hi everyone, the new cali has a knock, can only be felt through the steering and it only happens after you have changed gear and only with the 1st and 2nd maybe sometimes in 3rd too.
My husband and his friend recently changed the clutch and cant seem to find where the knocking is coming from.
My hubby said the is a suspect amount of movement in the gearstick when you put your foot down in 1st or 2nd gear and could be suspect box mount.
The old clutch was slipping and we have only noticed this with the new clutch in and have only owned the car for around a month now, could this be related to the work done on the clutch.
The car does have shot brakes and shot lower arms, these are getting replaced at the weekend so i guess i will have to get him to have a look.
ANY IDEA'S WELCOME

Yeah box had to come out, 2.0 8v n reg, should have been more clear sorry!, he said everything was done up f.t as far as he can remember but he will re-check the work carried out, i was reading another post on a similar subject, thought it maybe the rack, although you can feel the knock through the steering it does seem to be ofset towards the passenger side of the vehicle if that helps.

It is a single knock when ever a gear change has been made, will only knock if you accelerate away hard then change gear, also depends if you release the clutch quickly or slowly, if you change gear and release clutch quick it will give a single knock up through the rack or so it feels like anyway.

i take it you mean the gearbox mount, is there a way of checking this without taking it off, should it be the rack again is there a way of checking it, there is no movement through the steering what-so-ever, applied pressure to steering wheel top to bottom and side to side, shook the steering from left to right quickly at a stand still no knocking.
What ever this is, the location of the noise seems to be the lower part of the bulkhead.

Think i may have found the problem, it might be shock related or maybe top mount, whilst stood at the front of the car bouncing the front end i can hear a knocking coming from the osf leg somewhere and if i place my hand on the top of the turret you can feel something is knocking, i checked against the nsf and it did not feel to clever but did not knock.
What are your thoughts on this.

I just had both lower wishbones replaced ...as the front suspension strut sits in a rubber bush pressed into the wiskbone..and speed bumps / holes kill them. Mine started knocking when the rubber started breaking..bottom end of the strut onto wishbone, resulted in a very deep knocking sound from around my feet.

Right i have stiffened up the engine mounts (all of) with tiger seal, the major knock i had has gone.
Still a faint knocking but i think this is the top mounts, should there be a fair amount of play on the inner cv joint on the passenger side, it can be moved up and down and side to side if that makes sense, this cv did run dry of grease as the gaitor had split, is this likely to be diff bearings or knackered cv joint.
