Really bad camber
Really bad camber
A mate of mine has a Calibra 16v 2wd (XE) and it has really bad camber problems, and has asked me to ask on here if anyone can help as he isnt a member.
It is lowered 40mm on just springs but his camber is really excessive, its like the wheels are almost at 45degrees and its scrubbing the inside edges of the tyres off at a very quick rate, but its almost taking half the sidewall with it, as if its taking a corner slice off the tyre...
He says its had new springs all round, new top mounts, track rods, wishbones etc, and is stumped to how this is happening....as he previously had a Cavalier GSi 2wd that was dropped 60mm and that didnt have anywhere near a problem with its camber.
Anyone shed any light on this please?
Thanks in advance.

mines and indeed a good few are dropped 40mm, though I do get the inner edge wearing down ...its not as bad you describe, and its the rear tyres only
has he fitted new tyres after doing all this? as once the damage is done even when its corrected the tyres will still wear at the same point
and from what your saying he has replaced I presume your on about the front tyres? that kit in link above is for the rears

The cavalier is a different rear setup, lowering them does not effect camber.
The calibra has a better independant rear setup, but as a result cannot be lowered without effecting camber. and ajustable bushes as above are required.
The fronts which i agree with fraz from your writing you seem to be suggesting are also problematic, should be no different. as long as the tracking is correct you can pretty much lower it what you want without any problem. so i would suggest a good laser alighment on the fronts.

I said that, but he says the GSi didnt have a camber kit fitted and that was dopped 60mm and waas pretty much fine.

Its the rears i think mainly...and he says he fitted new tyres too, going through a pair or set every two months i think he said.

The Cavalier GSi 2wd and 4wd are the same IRS set-up as the Calibra and does effect rear camber when lowering!
