brake light problem

When the lights are switched off the brake lights work fine. When there switched on you can't even tell your braking, they just stay the same brightness.

Any ideas I could try?

try putting the proper bulbs in, sounds like you have single filament ones in.

Either that or they're in the wrong way and so the sidelights are brighter than the brakelights. Shouldn't be possible to fit wrong way round, but it is if you try hard enough lol! :)

only other thing would be a bad earth, try your indicators with all the lights on and press the brake pedal and see if the dim or slow down

Bulb holder could be covered in corrosion. they are cheap enough to replace and cured me of a similar problem
