Re: ECU testing
ecu doctor. u send it off, he does all the know how and then he sends it back with a certificate and a test label stuck to the ecu itself

Thanks for the info superfox
Stu i thought your car key matched your ecu? You can't just slap another in can you?

Re: ECU testing
as far as i know (and i've never had a late ecu, the correct chip needs to be near the ignition barrel, so you can just use your key to start and wave/tape the other key nearby..

Re: ECU testing
i thought the imobileser was in the ecu and the ring around the barrell just reads the key and send the information to the ecu, so the key and ecu need to match. But i could be wroung

Re: ECU testing
I thought the key and ecu had to match,i have a spare ecu from an ecotec, when i get a chance i will put it in and see what happens.

Re: ECU testing
I think you will need the key for both ECU's though

Re: ECU testing
later ECU's have the key security code embedded in them. you can change the key chip to match the ecu (if you have the 4 digit code) but you wont be able to do that without the security code and the scanner tool to do it
Re: ECU testing
From what I ca see everyone is saying the same thing, key needs to match ecu, all I've said is you don't need to swap ignition barrel you can just tape the "other" key nearby. If you borrow a mates ecu you will have their key too

that would work i think save changing barrels

Re: ECU testing
Point is i don't have the key to the spare ecu anyway,so is ecu doctor the only company someone has used?

Re: ECU testing
are you sure your problems are ecu related?
have you tried the paperclip test and read the fault codes?
