How do I bypass Lamda to kill the Management Light?
Hi
My problem is that my engine management light comes and stays on. I read the code and it's 38-Lambda Sensor Low Voltage.
I have tried a universal bosch sensor with no luck...
My head ache is, that as far as I found out, South Africa's Calibras were never fitted with Lamda Sensors... not certain on that BUT...
is there a way I can fool the ECU so that it thinks the Lamda Sensor (which is non-existent on my car) is ok?

I understand yes, and agree. But is there a way I can by-pass it to silence the management light?

If you can find the right value you maybe able to put a resistor in it's place but not the sort of thing I do. You can get the sensor sent from the UK.
Talk to this compnay and tell them we told you to contact them.

If he was able to get a bosh item, then he can get the right part.
what was the number you fitted mate?
without knowing which engine you have can't say what is the right one..
I know some astras etc had no lambda, so you arn't dreaming, I'm not sure if it was the case with calibras or not, I think they were on a different ECU though i will try to confirm that.

BUT wouldnt the reading be dynamic... change as u drive? is there a site somewhere that I can get the normal readings from?
That way I can calculate the size of the resistor that I need to put in there?
Like what would the band, voltage wise be?
PS: I'm hesitant in ordering something from the UK, whats the chances of the South African ECU differing from the UK 1?

the lambda sensor outputs voltage. so a resister wouldnt work. not much though, iirc we are talking a fluctuating voltage in the range of 0.5-0.8v
south african mk2 gte16v astras had no lambdas iirc, i would think the newer calibras did, but not sure. but I still dont know what engine you have?

I don't think you can fool it, "slow" sensors bring up faults, yet they still work, they just dont show quite the right figures, so i guess you'd get the same.. either figure if you have a lambda ECU if you do get it owrking, if you shouldnt have one, then start to look why its flipping the code.
Any history ont he car? was it ever okay? if it was, when did the change start?
low voltage codes are oftne just shorted wires in the loom.

I bought the car with the problem.
Just found out a friend, that has a cally too, said his was fitted with a lambda sensor. so it's true ja..
As for the model, here in S.A., we only had 1 model, 20xe. 20.0 litre 16v Redtop 115kW FWD.

also, I think previous owner removed the Lamda when he changed the exhaust system. Got no clue why but think he did ja.

Re: How do I bypass Lamda to kill the Management Light?
I think you'll be wasting your time trying to fool it, try to find the fault if you can.. check the loom first, get a multimeter and check the lambda sensor connector wires back to the ecu connector for signal, and iirc the fuel pump relay for the heater wire. its almost certainly a loom issue.. the heater circuit uses the exhaust as earth if i recall, so check that section isnt electrically isolated if its not a standard exhaust system.

if you get your ECU part number, the opel one and Bosch one we can tell you if the same
