when i bought the car the speedo stopped working on the way home, and every time i reconnect it, it works for a while then stops again, any suggestions?

is your speedo ,cable or electronic.

its a cable, and i reconncted it where it sits on the top of the gearbox, but it just keeps stopping all the time,

well thats the weird thing coz no i dont think it does, but everytime it stops working, i unscrew it take it off then put it on again and it works fine for about 20miles then just stops again

sounds like you may need a new cable mate

would that just be the cable from the back of the speedo to the gearbox??

thats the one. They come up on ebay quite regularly.

hang fire mate. the cable is steel. a new one will do you no harm but the cable has a steel square drive bit on the end. i rekon this has worn at the plastic female part to the assembly which it goes into. if this is the case you need the clocks or that plastic peice. i have a set already out but i havnt looked at them. what mileage has yours done? these are displaying 1oo,ooo plus iirc.

if the female part comes away i'd send you that with the cable for teh same as a cable alone
