talk me out of it

For all general things Calibra related

talk me out of it

by Tangerine » Wed Jun 09, 2010 5:51 am

it's getting near M.O.T time and im needing to spend quite a bit of money on the Calibra to get it through, i know im definitley looking at Brake pipes, Brake hoses, Brake pads, 1 tyre and the exhaust :(

and still, to get her as i want her, i'll be needing a bonnet, a door, rear arch work, the sunroof fixed, sills tidied, badges and a stereo

and the tax is due at the end of the month :(

then we have running costs of a new clutch seeing as my one is starting to just bite a bit strange and just feel like its starting to give small slips here and there, and the timing belt will soon be due,

i'm getting the itch to move onto something with a bit more power aswell, as much as i love my Cali, it's just not quite powerful enough to live up to it's looks :(

so i'm tempted to move on...but every time i drive it, or every time i look at it even, i change my mind

my head says it's maybe time to move on, especially seeing what i'll have to pay to get the Cali fixed up and what i can get for the money.... but my heart says get the work done on the brakes etc and drop a more powerful lump in :D

everyones situation is different, ive learned a calibra is like a women that is "high maintenance",in that i mean, needs constant attention, money spending on them, and if you dont they give you grief on a regular basis!!on the other hand get a good one, love it and it will be rewarding.

no offence to women here ....sorry lol.

calibras are cheap at the minute, not as economical as later cars....really boils down to ,do you need an a to b car,or a car with character that costs a bit more to run??

cheers for the replies :)

the v6 options quite interesting, i'll be thinking that over and keeping my eyes peeled i think :D

i like my cars to have a little character or a surprise factor, so a simple point to point car will never keep me interested for more than a few days

i had a look over my Cali today, the back brakes are seemingly the problem, the discs are badly pitted and scored and theres very little meat left on the pads

and the brake pipes are all needing replaced, i have a receipt from the previous owner for the pipes getting replaced due to it failing on them on the last mot, theres not a hope in hell they've been done. they've been totally ripped off.

that means the mushyness i have in the pedal is probably a mix of the above, and if the pipes havent been done, i'll bet the fluid is well past it's best too, as i doubt they'd have done anything to the fluid if they lied about the pipes. my first thought was flexis, but they seem ok, and the front brakes are fine seemingly.

she may live to fight another day yet in my ownership...unless a clean v6 appears of course :)

Decisions been made, she's going up for sale :(

The only reason being theres been a major change in the amount of driving im doing and space i require for lugging heavier stuff about, so im going to be going for a diesel with remap potential and save on the insurance/fuel costs into the bargain.

I'll be gutted to see her go and hope she finds a good home, i've no idea what to ask for her, but keep an eye out for the classified ad!

hopefully she's not the last Calibra i ever have, im sure i'll be back sooner rather than later :)
