4x4 again
Put the new sports transfer box in today so all running 4x4 again as it should be.
Getting the old one out was a pig as every bolt that was a tricky to get to had grotty threads and where tight all the way out.
Here's a tip if you ever need to fill a TX box with new oil.
Remove this bolt (seen missing) as this one and the lower one actually go into the inside of the casing and leaving it out will allow the new fluid to fill the box in less than 1 minute, as it allows the air to come out.
Also, if anyone has a gearbox and feels the gear change is a bit clunky, drop the oil and refill with EP75-80 oil.
My box only had about 1 litre in it, and was noisey and clunky, it's now smooth even when cold and very quiet.

good to see your back with your 4x4 dude. also on filling a txb box. i found the best thing was a fairy whashing up bottle. you can get a bit of pressure to push the fluid into the box also

Yes, the casing is from '92 and was actually built in may '08 according to the test data and warranty.
Again, with the gearbox now smooth it makes the car so enjoyable to drive, its even bettter than when I first bought it, so must always of been low.

Good job Andy, those bolts can be a bit of a pain, ive been tempted to loose the tricky one a few times when putting it back together
I remove the bolt to the left of the temp sensor when filling, also acts as a level gauge when filling not that you can go too far wrong if using the vauxhall fluid

on the plus side I managed to lift the gearbox and transfer box in one back onto the engine this time, just got to fill both nowwith oil then subframe back on then she's on the road again
