by KERR_SE9 » Fri Aug 06, 2010 5:53 pm

Hi there I'm moving to Italy in 3 weeks and I'm taking my turbo with me, could anyone advise on any maintenence I should carry out first.I'll put a new T-Belt on and give it a service, but other than that I'm unsure.

tyre pressures
tread depths
washer fluid
water pump (when doing the timing belt)
if its jacked to check for any play in any of the wheels. (grab top and bottom and try to move then the same side to side) if you get a couple of mm free play there is work to be done basically.
check for any leaks.
Is there anything about driving lenses alterations to be done for driving on the continent? since they drive on the wrong side the beam pattern has to altered possibly to avoid blinding people.

yes but yours has the steering wheel on the wrong side, so you wont get that for it ....and its a long drive to Italy

so best get some sort of AA cover
make sure you alter the headlights
get a warning triangle
a hi vis vest for the amount of people in the car. and have them in the car not the boot
spare bulb kit as well
up to date first aid kit
make sure you have the correct reg plates on the car

I would have no qualms about driving mine that distance, so why worry if you know the car is well looked after

I took a car to Menorca last month, but that was a spanish Car so a little easier. I have taken out Insurance specifically for driving abroad. From what I've read I can keep it on UK plates for 12 months, Just have to wait and see what happens.

The weather should keep the tin worm at bay atleast!

You got a pic of this Fraz? Fitting a HID kit and don't want stupid beam deflectors!

Ian I've read snow chains are a legal requirement in Italy, Is it the same for Snow tyres? From what I've researched Verona doesn't get alot of Snow

You cannot insure foreign plates in Italy and you must own the car for at least 12 months outside of Italy before importing it i.e. transferring to Italian plates. So it is unlikely an Italian will buy it.

Get plenty of bulbs as outside of urban areas you must drive with headlights on all the time. You also need car docs such as insurance & ownership + driving license with you at all times; on the spot fines or even impounding if you are caught without them in a random roadside check which are very frequent.

Need warning triangle & a fluorescent bib for every person in car. Bring plenty of service spares - Vaux / Opel parts are expensive & rarely in stock. Chains ae only needed for certain roads at specific times of year, no need to worry about them for a few months, lol.

The youth are like magpies; they love shiny bits. Vaux badges, tyre caps, ICE doesn't last very long. Saying that , TWOCing is a relatively rare event.

Learn to live with tailgating and formation flying

Whereabouts in Italy are you going?
