Whurring on turning left

by Robs-se » Sat Jul 31, 2010 8:13 pm

Today i reassembled the front suspension having had it all apart to renew the top mounts and bearings. On reassembley the car now sits better, the passenger side wheel no longer sits near the arch, the top mount plate in the engine bay sits flush with the top of the suspension tower and not on inch above it like before. On driving it now glides over speed bumps and the passenger side no longer scrubs the arch. In fact its now a joy to drive, even the slight wheel wobble has now gone.

The problem i now have is a slight whurring/rubbing noise when turning left, its not as bad as when it first was driven. We have checked all the nuts and bolts are tight, but are now stuck as to what this could be. Anyone any ideas on what it could be.

Oh and thanks for the prezzie Vinny your a star :)

Jacked it up and ..... there are no brake sheilds :? .
So took off the calipres and reseated the disks, the one on the passenger side centre was sticking out slightly maybe not allowing the wheel to sit true. Tapped it back in, replaced the calipre and wheel and out for a test drive. PERFECT  . Well happy, no whurring on turning left and no wheel wobble, just waiting for the pads to re bed as braking system is non standard and its now like having a new car. Just need to sort the sump gasket out now

Brake shields on the back not on the front, I'm sure Vinnys SE3 when he had the disc off to change his legs also didn't have the shields either and there are picturres on .com also with the same set up of no sheilds on the front either

True, found out from someone that as i have aftermarket brakes its not applicable to mine but if i went back to standard then i would have to get some fitted.

Nope doesn't make sense to me either, in fact i totally agree with you Steve. I have had a mechanic doing wheel bearings on it and he didn't say anything about them not being there and he's an MOT tester. Surely if its a fail he would have told me at the time.

This must apply to rear brakes as the back plate is the only means of securing the brake shoes. What purpose does the front plate serve? None that i can see in my opinion
