How does the handbrake handle/grip come off??

I've bought one of the Richbrook leather handbrake handles cheap to replace my standard plastic one, as it was peeling, i tried to file it down but it's just gash now.

I wanted a Momo handle to match my gearknob, or a 'Sparco Drift' handle, but i'm not spending £50!

I just dont know how the standard handles come off...my first idea would be to cut it off with a hacksaw, but if there is an easier way can someone tell me please

Place a cloth under the handle and use a hacksaw, or use a pair of molegrips and try and twist it off. either way they are on pretty tight.

Done this today...got the old handle off....drilled it and split it off...

But what a ballache fitting the new handle....right PITA, wish i'd got a new standard one now!
