When you say knife edge the divider and inlet ports what do you mean

Re: Finally got the head off .
in the divider bit ,the bit between the inlet manifold and the plastic bit you polish it up and where the inlets meet, you remove some of the metal and sharpen the air tracts it will help air flow as it separates into the according cylinder

Smooth patio slabs so would be hard to damage the head

could easily get some grit on face and put a rather deep scratch. a skim only takes a few
thousands of an inch of the face, bit of grit could do that
much better sitting on wood or even cardboard than a scratch surface

The only thing that should touch the head face is a skim tool or the head gasket. If the head must be placed face down then put it on a very soft surface, maybe like the piece of cardboard you have to hand....

Re: Finally got the head off .
The bottom of the head is facing upwards as you can see to the pictures. I only placed the head as shown in the pictures to take photos of the progress, as you can see im about to turn the head on its side. The piece of cardboard shown in the pictures is what i was working on. Maybe i should of left the head on the cardboard to take pictures so i guess thats my mistake. I'll say it again the work WAS NOT carried out on the patio. I hope this clears afew things up.
