Close shave
No not a crash but a severe heart in mouth moment not wanted before Chrismas.
I arrived home from work the other morning to notice something on the ground normally where
the front of my car parks. Had a look when i got up in the daylight and noticed the patches on the ground (my sump leaks a little bit anyway) were mayonaisey. Boll*x i thought. Opened the bonnet and checked the water, nothing in there, went to try the dipstick and got a handful of oil. On closer inspection the bell housing is coated in oil as well as the lower coolant hose, the sensor wires, the underside of the DIS and the side of the battery and in the battery tray. Most of it was starting to cook on.
Oh no i thought what can have happened!! Checked the dipstick anyway for signs of the dreaded engine milk and nothing. It then struck me that the dipstick hadn't been sitting in its hole correctly and had been spewing oil out, although not too much as it dip stick indicated just below the max.
So the mayonaisey stuff on the deck must have been where it ran out the dipstick tube and dripped onto the wet ground. Maybe it didn't reseat itself correctly after i did an oil check last week
, but the main thing is it isnt the head like i thought. I have stopped crying now
