Roadtrip ahead

by Calibra_Mike » Thu Aug 25, 2011 8:34 pm

Right, This Sunday I will be leaving Portsmouth and heading for Bonneybridge, Falkirk to visit some of my GFs family, be the longest trip the Calibra has made since owning it, going to be giving her some new oil and will get the tyres all checked on saturday plus all the other usual checks, so please fingers crossed that the old girl makes it there and back with no hick ups... 457miles each way... anyone wanna take a guess at how much petrol this is gonna cost me? I will be driving like a total oap the whole way and making sure I take a few stops to let the girl cool down a bit...

Wish me luck...

I travel to Airth near Falkirk quite a lot and have used the calibra the last three times and it averages 36mpg. I must admit it is done at 70mph set on the cruise control driving conservatively. The mpg is worked by filling the tank in fareham and filling it up when I get to airth and checking it against the mileage. The trip computer shows 42mpg so it is a fair bit out.

you reckon it will only get around 33 MPG ..I would say more like 44 or more I can make billing towing caravan on one tank

but split it and say £150 so you get back with a good bit in the tank :D

Have a good trip Mike. Reminds me of when I drove from Gatwick to Duns in the Borders for the Jim Clark Festival back in '93. One of the guys at work had a 16v Calibra as a company car and wanted some miles put on it, so it would have been rude not to take it! The Scottish roads were really enjoyable, much better than the crowded, speed camera infested rubbish we put up with in the south east. Best drive I've ever done, and even managed 300 miles without a stop on the way back, the car was that comfortable.

900miles didn't miss a beat and got 450miles to a tank... not bad for a 15yr old ecotec with 135K on the clock...
