The Highland Tour 2011 pictures
way to many to post so have done them as as silde show and the links are below ..and have down a wee write up as well, hopefully the rest will also add pictures to this as well
Well yet another great weekend touring round the Highlands was nice to have two new faces this year Ian and Rich, and they thoroughly enjoyed the weekend. So next year hopefully more will be attending. I know they both have said they will be coming along next year and as you can see its not a condition that you actually take a Calibra (though Ian did get some stick for having a Merc) We had the usual bunch as well myself, Steve, Ally, Mr C and Richard who both travelled a few hundred moles just to get here for the start.
Once again we started off on the Friday and after some stressful events that occurred prior to the start with Steve, we did eventually meet up just outside Balloch Loch Lomond, and it was thunder storms and heavy rain!!! But we drove through that up to Fort William to the first B&B. Some dinner and then to bed already for an early start on the Saturday
Saturday morning we all set off up to Mallaig to catch the Ferry, we did stop on the way to get some photos at Glenfinnan the famous hallowed ground for many Scots because of the historic associations with the Jacobite cause. It was here in 1745 that Bonnie Prince Charlie raised the standard in front of his gathered army to signify the beginning of the doomed second Jacobite rising that would become known as the "45" and not forgetting the other famous structure that is also there the viaduct. This of course is now famous for featuring in the Harry Potter films as the Hogwarts Express steams across on its way to the school.
Then over the sea and on to Skye, quick run up the roads to a nice lay by for a few photos of the Cullins. Then a drive up to Dunvegan. Here though we got separated and Ian and I just headed to Portree as the rest had followed the route and it was going to be to late to catch them up, Portree had a RNLI open day so we got to see that and just missed the helicopter display as unfortunately they then went past us as we waited, but we all met up again
From here we went over the Skye bridge and headed for the Applecross road, stopped to wait on Richard who we then found out had headed for Inverness, Off we went and up the Applecross road though Ian and I stopped to take a few picture from the other side of the Loch as the rest headed up.
From here we took the scenic route to Inverness and the second overnight stop, another good meal and bed all ready for the last leg on the Sunday. We set off in the rain down to Granton on Spey and a quick fuel stop, here once again we got separated and the rest headed down the A9 and cut over to Bridge of Cally and into Blairgowrie and we all met up again. From here we set off over to Crieff and once again we got separated and only Richard and Ian with me headed along Lochearn down to Callander and over the Dukes pass to Aberfoyle, it was here Ian and I said farewell to Richard 9after making sure he did have Steves postcode to get back)
Was a great weekend and getting lost on a few places all adds to the adventure, as for next year I have no idea what route we will take as running out of roads u in the highlands, but I am sure I can sort something out
Here are the pictures I took in a rough order of the route enjoy !!!!
