ONE LESS CALIBRA TURBO ON THE ROAD! :'(
Re: ONE LESS CALIBRA TURBO ON THE ROAD! :'(
Thanks SO much guys. The above info has been usefull! I will be on the phone to DVLA first thing.
As for it being a cat b, I have since been informed 'apparently' because of police incident?!!
I havnt been given any settlement figures as yet. And at pressent my case is with TCF a company who check the claim and require documents?! they then either give the OK to the insurers to go ahead with arranging a pay out or NOT! This apparently takes one week from today....so I will keep all posted.

you CAN buy a cat b wright of back to break as when my astra GTE was stolen and used to raid a local shop i bought it back and broke it for parts made more breaking it than the insurance company gave me
when i bought my astra GTE back it was at a rate of 8% of the payout value
as for putting a cat b back on the road im un sure as mine was to badly damaged to even try and repair so didnt look into it

My Cally was with MoreThan until Jan 2008, when their underwriting criteria and the car grouping changed. They needed to check the security on the car. I couldn't be ar5ed and went elsewhere.

well Caroline as our discussion on FB the other day I'd be buying the car back and either stripping it or putting it back in the road.
I would also be questioning the Cat B status as well, that's way off the mark for the damage you're describing, a Cat C would be far more accurate
when my turbo was written off I bought it back for £900

Been back onto insurance and asked for them to state on notes, that I am to buy the car back and under no circumstances am I to be removed from being the registered owner (altho Im not sure if i will be as its a total loss). She said she placed this on notes and I asked again about buying a cat b back. She said they usually ask for a certificte of distruction and that its usually at a rate of 10% of settlement figure. Ive written her full name and even at the start of the call said 'this call IS being recorded isnt it?' Ive got exact location of car and asked what its doing there (apparently just being stored) I also said that if anyone is to remove any part of the car, that would be theft and Id have to make a new claim! Hehehe She must of thought I was a right cheeky mare! Anyhows feel slightly better, altho I still think it will be some time before this is over with!!
Thanks Again for all the advice! Really do appreciate it!!

Good stuff, stick with it. Sometimes you have to be firm with these people, so they don't just fob you off.
You should appeal the classification as well if you havn't already. When you were told it was rated as Cat B because of 'police incident' sounds like a load of rubbish to me, from someone who has no idea as to the real reason why it was classified a Cat B. They just made that up as something to fob you off with, in my opinion.
The car's classification is rated only on its roadworthiness based on an insurer's engineer assessment of the level of damage of the vehicle. Nowhere does it say the classification should be amended based on whether the police were called or not, what a load of cobblers lol. If they argue the point, ask them to clarify where it states this in their guidance or anywhere else for that matter.
Most importantly, ask them to confirm all the important stuff in writing for your records. If its in writing, they have to make sure what they say is factually correct.
If they continue mucking you about, inform them if they don't sort it out properly, you will be taking it to the financial ombudsmen, as you are unsatisfied with their poor handling of the claim (and yes, you really can do this - see my link above). It might make them get their act together, if they know you mean business.

sound good advice to me, most people dont care if its a B or C as they are moving on to the next car and just want the money but i would stick with it and get them to justify why its a B and not a C or D so you can then put it back on the road or sell to one of us to put it back on the road

Re: ONE LESS CALIBRA TURBO ON THE ROAD! :'(
I'm a very infrequent visitor these days, but just happened to login when i had 5 mins to spare. Really sorry to hear about all this....Hope it works out in your favour in the end...Anyway, main reason I specifically wanted to post, is to let you know that although I sold my CallyT a couple of years back, I still have a dashboard in my loft (yes I know, why!) that you can have for postage cost if you want. Just figured it might be some use to you if you do get the car back and are able to go through the motions to get it re-classified for use again.
I'll try and remember to check here periodically, but if you do want to reach me, you're probably just as good getting in touch with "stupink" as we talk fairly often.
All the best...

Aww cheers guys means alot! Thanks projectx!!
Still bloody ongoing! Havnt been on in while, as its all getting on top of me now!! tbh they investigating a whole nother mata! Is my fault, but ya learn the hard way!! Basically my car is registered and my insurance is in my old address/recently moved...it is my parents home address....and tbf is generally parked there!! Rarely use her often and they have adequate parking. However the insurers have now sent this matter off to the underwriters? any advice from those who know of any instances like this would be great!!
I tried querying the classification, but until the insurance have the case back they cannot (apparently) look into this!! Im so sick its UNREAL!!
Oh and a update on the crims....16yr old has a 9mnth order to complete, im off to panel to meet him wk tues!!
they devise his contract and what he has to do for 9mnth...altho bare in mind his community service will be approx 18hrs for the full 9mnth!!! the 14yr old is ongoing and the adult in his 20's has been NFA's no further action!! Not enough evidence to convict!! Even tho the youths have both said he was there...the 14yr old held window (ya dnt need to hold my window) the 16yr old kept an eye out and the adult entered my home!! Anyhows he then drove my car to one of the youths parents home...where the mother seen and took keys and chucked them in a gutter. (ISNT THAT A WITNESS?!) the adult then got keys and drove car away and torched!! Bloody GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR ha sorry fella's its my way of dealing with it!!

Re: ONE LESS CALIBRA TURBO ON THE ROAD! :'(
find out who they are and there addresses i think its time for some vigilante violence (justice) as the authority's seem completely incapable of dealing with anything like this anymore
as for the address i had the same prob when my last mk2 astra gte got nicked and used in a ram raid but just told them where the car was stolen from was my partners home who i was visiting even though i had stayed there for a few months and forgot to move my insurance they never said anything about it
i hope you arent insured with admiral as i had months of problems with them when it came to claiming and they also put it down as AT FAULT claim how is someone stealing my car MY FAULT so lost 5 years ncb

Re: ONE LESS CALIBRA TURBO ON THE ROAD! :'(
Well Guys..........
I have been approved!! lol and they have accepted my policy is as it should be, after a long 6wks 1day!!
Anyhows I questioned Cat B and the engineer said basically the toxins from the foam in the interior is harmfull and if the car was to be placed back on the road...and a chilc touched something and licked it etc etc! He said there is no way he could move it from a b to a c!!
Im not sure if I should open a new post BUT I have been offered £1000 minus £200 excess and minus £100 to buy car back! I declined and the engineer is happy for me to, send him links of calibra's for sale fetching more realistic prices!! Anyone that can help...with afew links this would be great. Hunted ebay and only the calibra with the sabb engine at £1500 is for sale. Searched pistonheads and only one sold at £1850...struggling other than to browse the for sale section here!!
