I'm not refurbishing it as such....I have a Rattley knocking coming from the back end, both sides but drivers side is worse....and no one can see what is causing it and no one seems to be able to diagnose it, so i keep having to ask things and i keep replacing things but it still knocks.
Oddly it only started when i had new (Bilstein B4) shock absorbers fitted which i doubt it would be them so i got new ARB bushes and subframe bushes and trailing arm bushes....got garage to fit them and still knocking, so got some new shock top mount bushes, fitted them, still knocking,
got some some metal inserts, fitted them, still knocking,
new rear anti roll bar links bought and lower bushes, still knocking.
and its nowt else either, as ive had all the interior out and it still knocks, its not the hatch or hatch struts....
Its driving me mad basically....short of buying new shocks, which i really dont want to do due to the expense, i really have no idea.
One lad said it could be the springs?....but springs surely wont cause knocking if they are not broken?

Is that possible though? and how would i check that?
Re: rear suspension
The coils might be hitting each other and youll
be able to see the rust marks where the coating
has rubbed off. That could be causing the clunking
noise mate if youve tried everything else

Ok thanks, i thought they'd only hit each other if the car was bottoming out?....its an area to check though ta

My rear springs are in a pretty bad state though. i think they are originals...alot of the coating has flaked off them.
Re: rear suspension
If i was you mate i would get new springs then

You've got me thinking this could be the cause actually.....if my garage has looked at it a couple of times and it's passed MOT's then nowt is surely loose at the back end to cause this clunking?, so if springs can cause it then it has to be the springs.
Just looked on ECP and i can get a pair of sachs springs for about £63 delivered......just wary of buying stuff now incase it still does it!!
and sorry for the semi hijack of your thread
