V6 cone filters

by SE9V6 » Wed Aug 15, 2012 6:51 pm

I have tried fitting 2 different cone filters on my SE9 2.5 V6, a K&N cotton gauze one, and a Pipercross foam one, and with both i have had issues with irractic tick over, cutting out as engine returns to idle, cutting out on tick over, sudden powerloss for 1 or 2 seconds when revving under hard acceleration. seems to be more problematic when either the engine temp is high, or outside temp is high. car runs fine all the time with standard air box. does any1 know to any well known issues with them, any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

the v6 engine bay is very warm and you are now pulling in that hot air if you want to keep the cone filter youll need to build a heat shield and put a cold air feed in so the engine can suck in cold air not the hot air from the bay

thanks steve, i had a feeling it was temp related.
would it be better to just use a freeflow panel filter in the air box or go with ur idea of making an heatshield?
need to do something, as it feels so choked with the standard paper filter, car pulls much smoother and stronger with the cone filter on (when its colder weather) or without the filter in the airbox!!!

Did you make ur own heat shield?
what other tuning advice can you give me, as i think the V6 is really quite flat at the low end, and i dont really know much about them!
i used to have a 16v C20XE and a 4x4 Turbo previously which i knew loads about but still learning the V6.
Thanks Ash.

the best way to tune a c25xe is to pull it out and stick in a c30, c32 or even better c20let, if thats not a option youll need to try get more air down her throat,

enlarged throttle body
3.0L lower divider
4 bar FPR
bigger injectors
custom headers and exhaust
or you could go down the 3.0L inlet manifold

trying to tune a v6 is a costly job 200bhp ist to hard but after that youll need deep pockets pound for pound youll get more BHP from a LET engine,
