Rio Verde Green V6

by BMJ » Fri Nov 30, 2012 11:33 am

Hi Guys,
I thought I'd start a thread on my work improving my calibra, nothing fancy just a bit of a tidy up and show and tell about what I have done, and also have planned for my calibra.

Well I spent a few weeks tidying up the engine bay, that included:
Respraying the intake manifold, engine top mount brackets, alternator cooling fan bracket, exhaust manifold shield and engine cooling fan bracket in universal aluminium.
Respraying the exhaust manifold flat black.
Spraying the cover between the engine bay and front window in gloss black, and polishing the wiper arms and fitting new aero blade wipers.
Recovering all engine bay wiring with new black conduit, and using cable ties and electrical tape to tidy up ends and junctions.
Polish the engine cover.
Replace all coolant hoses with Roose motorsport hose kits, remove water pump, thermostat, oil cooler, oil cooler bridge, and reseal.
Replaced the power steering mounts with powerflex like new mounts.
Polished what I could of the engine bay, I'll have to revisit this with some cutting compound.
Replaced overflow tank with a new tank.
Replaced all the engine mounts.

Here are the pictures, enjoy.

Car looks good but please don't buy Nankangs, they have to be the worst tyres I've had the miss pleasure to use.

Thanks Guys for the positve comments.

It will take a while as most of the work is DIY but I'll get there I fitted a lower inlet manifold from a X25XE today, as pictured below, and tomorrow I'll start modifying the airbox.

I'd have to agree, Rio Verde is a really nice colour I used have a pearl white calibra, but after seeing a green one I feel in love with rio verde green so a year later I bought a rio verde green calibra.

I think the project will take all up about two months so I'll keep posting progress reports in the mean time until completion.

The one word is saw in all of that was 'Nankang'....which roughly translates into English as "Dont f*cking buy these as you'll end up in a ditch"....well, kinda LOL :)

Hi Steva,
I have actually been looking at your cally turbo and it is in a word "amazing", I liked the contrasting interior and so was inspired to go for a white interior similiar to yours. Yeah I love the Rio Verde Green, personally it's my favourite colour. I even have a leather jacket that matches the colour.

Re the Nankang's
I'm just wonder what so bad about them?

I have actually been using the NS-2 for about 6 years or so and they seem to be a very good tyre in all conditions.

Orginally I was put onto them when I asked a friend, Owen, which were the best tyres around and he said basically go for the NS-2.
Background on Owen, he was part of the fast & furious crowd at that time here in Sydney, these boys were racing skyline gtr's, wrx, m3, rx-7 and the odd 360 and the alike, im sure they went threw their share of brands and compared and Owen told me the NS-2's was what everyone was using.

i would never fit another nankang tyre even if it was free they are dangerous almost zero grip in the wet and tbh p**s poor in the dry

in the tyre trade around here they are nick named "ditch finders" or "nankang go bangs"

It might be the case, because I thrash my car at times and I never have lost grip in the dry or wet. They seem to be fine for Australian climate.
