your better sometimes to strip all layers of protection that have been applied over the years and get down to the paint, you can then give the paint more correction and remove any marring or marks left by a polish or wax or water that has not been removed corretly, or some tar that has been polished over rather than removed

I do it twice a year but does take a day or two to get it all done

well I do it around Aprl to get all the winter stuff off and about October to give it protection over the winter ...on the plus side after that a quick wash is all thats needed and the beading of water lasts months

bad side is it does usually take a full weekend to do t all ...my routine

Snow foam car
Rinse
Dry car with towel
Take all wheels off and give them a good wash and then leave to dry
Go over car with a product called "wax off" does what it says a will remove all wax or sealant
Wash car with a mixture of G101 and do any or the badges/grills with a soft brush
Rinse and dry
Then apply Tardis ...a Tar remover and go over full car making sure all tar spots removed
Rinse and dry

Now do same to the wheels ..And dry and leave
Back to car and now apply IronX .......a product to remove any iron contaminates
Do same with the wheels
Rinse car and wheels …allowing about 10>15 minutes for ironX to work before rinsing

Snow foam car again and wheels and then rinse
Use a clay bar and go over the car and if needed the wheels (using the used clay from car for wheels)
Snow foam and rinse
Wash car with a good car washing product …twice ..wheels also
Dry with a good towel or 3
Apply a paint correction polish .I use few types but Super resin polish is good , I do it twice ..try not get any on the black trim
Apply 2 coats of wax (or whatever protection you want) I use Collinite 476 and you should wait an hour at least between coats …so good time for lunch/dinner
Do same with the wheels
Clean all the wheels arches using G101 and I then apply Barebones from Chemical Guys, refit the wheels
Clean all black trim and apply some protection to them
Clean all the windows
And then start on the interior

Oh and I do the engine bay area and around the boot as doing the rest of the outside
