V6 Diagnostic port

by SE9V6 » Sun May 05, 2013 12:55 am

I have the really frustrating issue of having my engine management light keep coming on and have no idea what is causing it!
As it is impossible to get a reading on a diagnostic scanner, as all the contacts inside the plug that connects to the scanner are heavily corroded.
there are 7 wires that go into the plug, but inside, there is only contacts in 5 of the holes, 4 of which are so badly corroded they are black.
What i really need to know is wether or not this plug is unique to the Calibra SE9 V6, or if any other model had the same one?
Any info at all would be a great help, as i am desperate to rectify this problem and feel like without having access to any fault codes i could spend forever and a shed load of cash trying!

I had the same problem a few years ago mate.I managed to
get another diagnostic plug from a breakers.Just cut ,join and
solder the cables core for core and then give the plug a smear
of vaseline to stop it corroding

thanks for the link and info, very useful and hopefully will be alot of help.

altho, i am not so sure that even that will work due to the contacts inside my plug being corroded, as is seen in the pics

i have found some1 with another plug, but its still on a complete loom which he won't split, and wants 50 quid for the whole thing!
i originally thought it was on the ECU loom, which he only wanted 40 quid for, and i was gonna go get it and swap the whole lot, as i am almost 100% certain that i have a wiring issue to the air flow meter aswell, so would have been worthwhile, but seeing as the diag plug is on the loom that goes behind the dash, which i dont need, dont really fancy shelling out 50 just for the plug!

if the engine is running then you should not get code 31 ..as the crankshaft is turning

ok thanks mate,

so i take it, if i still get code 31 when the engine is running, then the crankshaft sensor has a fault?

ok thanks mate,

so i did the test again with the engine running!
but, it seems as if the process of flashing out the codes gets interupted, and starts over again, and this keeps happening again and again
during the flashing of the codes, it looks alot like the EML flickers, either in between each flash or during a flash!

with the engine of i get 1,2-1,2-1,2.........1,4,5-1,4,5-1,4,5.........3,1-3,1-3,1.....then back to the start
with the engine running it dont even get to complete the 1,2-1,2 part on most attempts, and on odd occasions it gets about halfway thru the 1,4,5-1,4,5 part.

would this suggest that the crankshaft sensor has a fault????

cheers
Ash
