Calibra Haters

Have a rant...

Why does it seem everyone gives the Calibra such a hard time?
Almost every car forum has someone slagging it off, everything from its chavvy,to the transfer box is like chocolate and my personal favourite "it's the worst chassis every made" Really, can think of several Korean white good that come higher up the list!!!

Is it really that bad? I mean I sell cars and have a small collection of my own,I've owned or driven most of the best cars from the 80s to 00s (well the ones within my budget) and don't see the problem people have.

Have mates that are made on German and Jap cars, and even they have a respect for my Cally T now.
The worst part for me,is the lovers of the Cavalier that hate Calibras, I know the Cavs a cold old car but C`Mon the Calibra Is about 3/4 the same and way better looking imho!!!

Rant over.

oh that is because they just repeat everything they have heard/read and think they are clever in doing so, though have no actual knowledge of the car

That seems a good explanation for it Fraz, prime example, as you know if got a Fiat Coupe 20v Turbo and the Calibra Turbo handles far better, despite what lovers of the Fiat would have you believe!

i dont get it either, im a car enthusiast i might not like every car out there but i appreciate time and money that some have spent on there cars, it does my head in when you hear some of the comments from so could car enthusiasts that slate the calibra if they spent 2mins to see past the ones that are chav'd up they would see a car that was a head of its time by about 10 years,

As previously mentioned, them buggers are lacking in actual knowledge... :alright:

Any car that's over 20 years old, is bound to have it's issues...

I've even converted a few Calibra haters, when they saw my Calibra...

I'd say there'd be more haters over there, as most people over here, have never even heard of a Calibra...

Those Cavallier people who hate Calibra, are pure morons with no style or taste...

Your average UK Calibra of today, that's been used on a budget of £15 a year is a bit of a dog. Soggy bushes, neglected engines and a different brand of bald tyre on every corner. So no wonder people dislike them.

Looked after ones though are still good to drive, even by modern standards.

And back in the day they were (IMO) great cars. Good looking and mechanically solid.

but that applies to almost every car over 3 years old (OR YOUNGER) ...go work in an MOT station for a week and you will see everything from bald tyres on a car that they just use "to get kids around" broken suspension links, not just worn, and then you find out "oh its been like that for a long time now...is it serious ?"

that though is the normal (for want of a better word) people....these others are meant to be car people

Just mention Lancia...and all you get is ...oh the engine falls out of them things...rust buckets...and that is just not true (well for most...just like any other cars from that era)

I've heard it all... But certainly in the last year I've noticed people starting to come round on the Calibra. It seems that a lot of my friends now have respect for my old girl, I think the fact that year on year it's still pulling strong and getting through the MOTs. I've seen mates Audi A4, pugs, Hondas get scrapped as it would cost too much to repair. 16years old and the calibra is still giving other cars a run for their money...

And the reasons I love the Calibra so much... It feels like it will go on forever, even when it's been unwell its always got me home...

Ignore the ignorant sods. They really don't know what they are talking about.
I only get positive comments from passengers in mine.

These are the same people who think they are clever telling me what Lotus should stand for.
My Elan has had 2 issues in the past 3 years...A cracked rear screen which was my Calibra's fault: (I needed to peel back the roof when it was -10c in order to get to the battery to jump start the Cali...the roof was 20 years old & needed replacing anyway) & a worn headlight motor bush which cost me all of £6 to fix.

Well maintained Calibras seldom change hands. Those on the market are usually there because they have not been looked after.

I've loads of cavalier pals & to my knowledge none of them " hate " calibra's & they're actually quite glad of their existence because all the running gear is interchangeable . I'm a cavalier guy through & through & it'll always be my first love but when I appear at shows or meet up with my cavalier mates their eyes just about pop out when they see my Calibra , tbh , they love it .
