Fuel Pipe Replacement

by DanSE4 » Wed Mar 05, 2014 3:20 pm

Going to be replacing all of the fuel lines from rail to tank this weekend.

Does anyone know if you can get access to where they connect to the unit on top of the tank without actually dropping the tank?

Cheers.

I'm replacing everything (last MOT flagged that the pipes from the filter going back to the tank weren't too good).

Currently have a combination of metal, rubber & SS braided hose where I've replaced bits in the past so I've just bought an 8m length of SS braided hose to do everything from rail to tank in a continuous pipe (with the exception of splitting it at the filter of course).

For some reason I had it in my head that there was a cover (or something) under the boot carpet to get at the unit on the top of the tank, too much cheese perhaps?

It is a flexible one from the filter to the tank & that's the one that's perished on mine. Been meaning to replace the lot with a single at piece at some point though so now's as good a time as any.

Was just clutching at straws really to see if it was possible to get at the connections to the sender on the tank without actually dropping the tank.

No cheese, that's what you do in a Cavalier (non Turbo) under the rear seat. Not sure if any Calibras have the hole.

I didn't think I was talking complete b*******.

Had a few Cavs in the past so that must be what I was thinking of.

To be brutally honest, I went for the flexible ones as it's less ballache to run them!

Being an occasional use car & not one that spends much time out in the elements, they should last me longer than I suspect they would in daily & nasty weather use. The stainless outer braiding should also offer a little more durability.

Two axel stands under the front subframe & two under the rear crossmember works for me but yes, wheels stayed on! It did fall off the last stand when I was lowering it back down though (front offside) but it did it so slowly it was quite amusing to watch.

The two lads are mine & they are banned from so much as sticking a finger under the car when it's up in the air. They're bloody useful though for passing me spanners, wheel nuts etc.
