spongy brakes

hi all, right today change my abs unit everything gone ok no light on anymore! bled all 4 brakes no probs but brake pedal is very spongy and travels a lot further before stopping car any ideas also checked for leaks everywere and all seems to be ok any ideas cheers

Hi Steve I bled all four brakes at calipers that's it thinking that's all I needed to do am I wrong?

thats all you need to do but what did you use to bleed it ? and how much fluid did you take out each caliper ?

you would need to draw fluid all the way from abs unit to the caliper

I use the Gunsun Eezibleed kit, you can do it alone and it just pushes the new fluid through for you.

In fact mine aint great, might flush the lot out.

What DOT fluid are we on now?4/5?

Steve are you using the bleed kit with the non return valve?
I would get a full new bottle of fluid and get it into the system
just to make sure all the old fluid and air bubbles have been pumped out.

Thanks for all replies I used new fluid dot4 and kept topping up hard container up above calipers and got rid of all air bubbles by turning bleed nipple while trace pressed brake etc I'm thinking I may need to do it again as like I said no leaks from anywhere and everything tight just spongy!!

I reckon i will use my kit to push a complete flush through, then do half a dozen pumps the manual way.

Could be a leaky resevoir/master cylinder

I've got one of those one-man bleeding kits but it never works. In fact when you connect it up to the spare tyre there is usually too much pressure in the tyre so it forces brake fluid out from the brake reservoir
