refresher needed on connecting mirror glass to backplate

Guys when i had my car painted the mirror glass was removed when the mirrors were painted and they were just clipped back in after but not connected to the motors. For the life of me , i cannot remember the right way to connect the mirror glass back to the pegs for the motor??? Ive tried a few times but the pegs just push back when i try to push the glass onto them.
Im sure there was a technique to putting them back on without this happening?
A re fresher is needed if someone can remember how its done as i want the mirrors working on the switch again.
