It would seem vin plates that start with W where made in Germany
And vin plates starting Y where made in Finland

Today I sorted the rust around the wheel well

I don't have a spot welder. So best alternative was to plug weld where the spots where!
Not the neatest welding I admit. (Especially on right HS as getting wire feed set right/better)

Then coverd in bilt hamber (like waxoyl) but better :)

I thought calibra where made in both factory's (Germany & Finland ) at the same time.
I have heard that it seems like some got protected better than other. But it hasn't been proven.

The chap I bought this one of didn't know much about the cars history other than it was a mot failer
He just wanted the engine for a nova. (And the clocks)
I looked up the cars past mot pass/fails and it was driven about 10K a yr until 2008 where it failed on a few things. Got fixed and passed, then only coverd 13miles up till 2013 !!! Where it failed on many things.
Which kind of fits in right where I bought it and the story the chap told me.
So where ever this car sat for 5 yr I'll never know but it lasted well over that time.

Continuing with my war against corosion I bought some cavity wax in a can from the same company that the 5L bottle came from. Only difference being is the can came with a 600mm long wand with a head that 'claimed' 360 degree spray head !?!?!?

Feeling sceptical about its claims and despite reading many great reviews, I though how can you really tell it's working (360 degree spray) when it's used in a place that you can't see into!!!??
So a experiment was in order :-)
I took 3 short bits of drainage pipe 4"-5" round. (Only because I didn't have 1 long bit to waste lol)
Cut them length ways.
Taped them back together.

Note the rectangular hole in the tube is about the same size as the one in the Cill section of the calibra!
And the tube is not far off the size of the Cill section.

I then sprayed away as I pulled the pipe out from its hole.
Then split open my pretend Cill section

Pretty bloody impressed I must say!!!
So I went ahead and fed it into the car cills, box sections, rails. Any hole I could lol

When doing the rear rail I was pleased that the 600mm wand reached all the way to the spring mount.
IThis seems to be a place where they rot first


Also been treating and sorting the tank top

so how much did you get done out of one can of the Dynax then?

see its roughly about £18-£20 a tin so would be handy to know what coverage you get out of one tin

I got both side cills done
Both rear rails
The rail across (left to right) under rear seats. (Under car)
The box section just behind front mud flap.
And box section inside car under drivers seat.
I wish I'd bought a second can so I could of done the cross members above and below rad. And section above front wheels.
The 5L bottle I bought I spayed on with a shurtz gun. And that did eveything in previous posts. Plus I still have a little left.

That hole I'm going in through is into the Cill section. (Not only inside the car)
If you remove the cover that runs inside the car along the Cill, then remove the plastic plugs that it screws into. You gain access to the entire Cill section. I had to weld a patch on one side so at least it's now protected internally.
Either way it's rust prevention weather it's a common place or not!?? Do you not agree?
The rear rails do rust from inside out?! So if you wanted to take that & the effectiveness of the can with its wand and preserve your pride and joy is entirely up to you.
Rust can start anywhere imo, so treating everywhere seems a wise idea. And less work than cutting out and welding in new parts. And I've done plenty of that on other cars. ;)

True, water may not get in, but... When Ive cut out sections of Cill or rails I've seen rust forming on the inside. Damp gets everywhere. And there is no paint in there to protect it. Or the seam.
Either way it's got less chance of rotting now. That's for sure.
And it only cost £20 for the can
Protecting the Cill or not. The can worked wonders at doing what it said on the tin as I proved with my mock up Cill.
My chasie rails are better protected now are they not?
I was just showing off how well the can with its wand worked.
welding patches on normally promotes rust forming sooner. This helps keep that at bay surly.

Do you not see the positive side of my post?

It's a cavity wax
It sprays 360 degree
Some parts of cars can benifit from it
I took time to test, photograph, and post my findings
It's cheap and easy to do
Most people can't weld and could save money and benifit
