Some progress on custom dash/windscreen moulding

I've been thinking about tackling this for ages but I always had trouble coming up with a workable but permanent solution.
So far using the dash from the donor car for a trial fitting;




Plan is to use the 3 anchor points for the dash to also secure the custom strip... still need to cut in the vents obviously and what you see in the pics is only the base for a 1 piece top panel that stretches to the front glass.

A bit further along. Finished the end supports, finished shaping the MDF insert and trialled a rubber seal along the cutaway. So far so good!

I have the top panel now cut and shaped and starting to work on the vent cut outs.

Just need the recessed holes to secure it in place and a couple of coats of clear and it's ready.

I should have mentioned that this is simply assembled from layers of 3mm MDF. There is no for any “thicknessing” to do the job and only basic hand tools are needed. A coping saw and a hand drill, some sandpaper and a suitable block were used.

I must say that the piece turned out to be much less difficult to fabricate than I had first imagined and I’ll be sure to update this thread with more pics when it is finally fitted and in place.

Hi Ben,
I put this thread up only to demonstrate how simple this really is to make yourself.
Never anticipated selling any TBH plus I think distance makes this a costly exercise.

It really is easy I thought it would be more difficult before I got started.
If you can cut some 3mm MDF and hold a sheet of sandpaper your half way there!

Perhaps you can find a donor dash locally to use as a template? Other members wanting one might be able to help out? TBH the base is not overly critical... as long as it fits snug and is 2 x 3mm panels + a further 3mm top panel to locate the vents. The pics in this thread show the way.

In situ the panel slopes upward toward the glass. The sun is the only possible issue I'd say.
