Re: getting my SE6 back on the road bulld. Update 28/2

by sealeysonic » Sun Feb 28, 2016 9:52 am

Hi all....got my "serious head on" the other day.....Turned my attention to the Crank/no start on my C20ne.......took off the crank pulley to check the timing.....

Top TDC with tippex on the timing mark not by me(belt was changed 10k ago)

Image

Timing mark on the crank sprocket

Image

Now it all needs a clean to confirm.....but it looks like the belt has slipped.

Gave the area a clean today....

Image

Im still sure the timing marks dont line up.....but all i have to go by is the tippex on the crank sprocket...there dont seem to be a real mark like on the crank pully.

Back of the pully

Image

Image

The rear timing cover has seen better days tbh

Image

The question remains......if i take it all off(which needs to be done anyway)...reset the timing...will it be ok...?

Thanks all

Sorry ive not been on here for such a long time....plant of "stuff going on" as per useual.....bit of an update then.....kinda getting there of the underseal.......

Image

Image

Image

Set about the rear brakes.....gave the caliper a shot blast at work....came up ok....let the shoes in as im raplaceing them.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Got this bugger out too...

Image

bit of a paint....

Image

Now for the back plate.......and we all know this is going to get messy lol

Image

To my deight all the bolts came out fine...

Image

Image

a quick tap to get the bit to sit tight....

Image

Image

Image

clean up time....

Image

Image

Image

Image

The slot where the Yoke goes through

Image

Image

Brace n Bracket.

Image

Image

Shot blasted at work...

Image

Image

Image

Omaga pass side back plate...£25 off ebay...some of you know where im going with this...?

Image

Image

Image

I had hoped to drill out the spot welds to so i can rotate the dust shield.....but the omega plate is not built that way...the Ring the shoes sit on is separate....

Image

Image

thinking time lol

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

So off to work.....and the Band saw......

Image

Image

Clean the edges up....

Image

Silver bolts to hold it together while spot welding it

Image

Image

Image

Image

Now...while im at it.....time to try can re-produce a back plate to sell on to you lot lol off to the foundry to try a "bench mould" casting.

Image

Not too bad...the plate part needs to be thicker to "run" better....also i knocked the mould out too early.

Image

Image

Worth a try......so I`ll keep at this idea.

Now as im so random when i go down the CallyCave ive started on the timing belt....as no matter how much i try the TDC`s dont line up....

Image

Image

Im hoping this is why i have a crank and no start issue lol

Got this TDC finder tool to play with....it goes in cylinder one and gives you a indication of tdc on compression stroke.

Image

Image

Off with the cam pully....to get to the thermostat housing...where my water leak is coming from....

Image

Image

As you can see there is a fair bit of crap and corrosion...so the leak might have been dripping for ages and just boiling away.

the thermostat housing......not in the best of condition.....there should be a seal here...there was no evidence of anything...no bits of rubber etc...

Image

No2 in the top of this picture..

Image

The rear timing cover shows more signs of leakage...and is brittle as egg shells

Image

A shot blast at work...and good as new...almost.

Image

Image

Apart from what seems to be a crack.....

Image

It goes up and around to the top bolt hole...

Image

Image

Now i have found a new one on ebay...but its £88 so plan B is to see if it can be fixed...so i pasted some Chemical Metal around the crack...sanded it back a bit and a bit of paint...just to see how that goes....

Image

Image

So this is where we are at....lots of random goings on.....lol
