Rear seat is now finished leaving only the front seats left to recover. Just need to sort out a low profile jack that I can carry in the boot permanently or otherwise resort to using mini ramps to provide a little more height. I'm beginning to believe the end is in sight until it goes full circle and then starts over again.

Not much happening on the Calibra front of late.

Bought some heating elements for my front seats in readiness for recovering. Just need to prepare a relay and fuse and the wiring so I can just fit the seats when they're done. Have on order some new loop pile carpet being made up for the cabin/boot area and have just received the new underlay I plan to use throughout. Also bought a LP jack to get underneath the side skirts in case of a flat. Still waiting on 2 more rims to arrive from Japan and have some aluminium hub rings made up to suit. Need to get the air-con gassed and the front end sorted once I have the new wheels & tyres on.

Received actual samples of some carpet colours today and decided to live a little dangerously and settled on this...

The sample piece I have in my hand is really quite different in colour tbh... it's really more like a sand or light cardboard colour.

These guys do fitted/moulded carpet as well as sell the same carpet off the roll. They'll even make up custom mats to suit including bomded healpads, overlocked etc.

I really wanted to order carpet from this firm because of their 3D mats but they can't/won't manufacture for Callys.

They do an awesome car mat IMO...

Had some time today so I thought I would tackle the annoying creaking and clanging doors. I've read this is the result of a worn nylon washer in the check-strap arm but the loud crack sound definitely wasn't being caused by any washer.

I had a hunch it was due to the bracket flexing against the door as it was being opened/closed so I removed the mechanism completely and drilled out the bracket so I could use bolts. split washers and nuts to refit it. At first it didn't appear to be a fix... actually made the cracking sound even worse but after watching the arm move between the rollers it became clear the fixed portion contained inside the door wasn't correctly aligned to the arm travel.

After a little adjustment of the bracket and some grease the cracking sound is now gone. It now sounds like any other car door

Next time I'm ordering from Autovaux I'll grab a set or two of washers at any rate.

It's usually that the bar is able to move where it meets the pillar - and that's normally due to washer wear but it sounds like you've cracked it anyhow - no pun intended...

It seems to me that the movement you describe surrounding the bolt is normal. From wide open the arm moves inward toward the bolt (at like 45 deg) until the door closes past the outer most 'hold' position. This is a result of the 'pinch' of the arm running through the two rollers until it passes through into the notch in the arm. Closing even further past the inner 'hold' position (to the door eventually shutting) and the arm then moves more forward inline with the arm (toward the outside of the bolt) until the arm is again in the slack position just before the door closes.

I suspect that only this little amount of movement is necessary. Too much and new washers are likely required.
Anyway, happy to have sorted mine in my round about way.
