Electric Windows - HELP!!

by kittykat » Sun Mar 20, 2005 12:43 pm

Ok..so nice day yesterday, mate opened the window (passenger) on my cally....went to close it...pressed the 'up' switch and it went fully down.

Now the window won't close...can hear the motor clicking but the window won't budge at all....any ideas??

Can only suggest to try using the key to shut the window, if you dont know about that, hold it 45degree's to the left from upright, half way to the deadlock position.. it should put the windows up..
other than that, which would only get around a switch problem, your gonna have to take some panels off and get the multimeter out

Nope...tried the key...was the first thing i tried apart from hitting it and shouting at it....is there anyway of putting it up manually for the time being?

The window won't even budge upwards by pushing the rails from the bottom...

Have you tried pushing gently while holding the button?

If you cannot get it fixed right away try to cover it up with something like black bag and tape and park it somewhere a safe as possible. Sounds like an electrical problem or a problem with the motor doesn't it.

Anybody good with Vauxhalls will be able to sort that for you quite easily I imagine.

Its in the garage so its safe...its just a pain cos can't drive it...and of course it happened last night so can't get anyone to look at it today!

i did wonder if it was the regulator...can imagine how expensive thats going to be

Could it have popped it's rivets? Mine did that once due to shutting the door with the window open.

When you press the switch can you hear the motor activating?

Do any of the other electrics in the door work (e.g. the mirror, central locking, the speakers etc.), as if not, you might want to give the loom wire a good wiggle where it goes from the main car into the door (it's in some sort of rubber sleeve).

Rivets are all intact...well they were till i drilled them out....yeh it wasn't the loom..speakers worked etc

Had a play around with it and found out that it is the regulator, seems to have died

Thanks for your help tho guys...managed to pull it all apart and move the spindle so that the window is now held up and CLOSED...can't open but it means i can drive it...just wait for the regulator to arrive....

i had this problem last year and it was the regulator unit !!
to remove the regulator you "MUST" WEDGE THE GLASS HALFWAY UP OR YOU WONT HAVE ROOM TO MANOUVER THE REGULATOR OUT OF THE DOOR CAVITY .also double check that "ALL" the white plastic guides are in the runners as you cant pop them into position once you rivet the unit back in place.by the way a regulator from a scrappy only cost £25 !!!
