Which alternator?

by se6 » Wed Mar 23, 2005 9:01 pm

I have an 8v, what alternator do i need?
I read somewhere that as standard it would be 100A as i have aircon.
Then somewhere else it would be 70A. I want one with the largest output possible, can i get a 120A for my car? If not what is the largest that will fit?
Thanks

it depends which version of the belt you have, as far as im aware the thinner Vbelt comes in a 70a only, and the later 3/4 flat belt comes in 90 and 120a also....

not gospel tho, never really looked into it properly

ahh yeh, i think all the later ones are the wider setup, although i don't know much about the 8v.. so you should be able to fit the 120amp just fine

120amp alternators are for Cally Turbo's and/or Aircon cars IIRC

i want a 120amp as well. have a 92 model with the thin toothed belt. i dont think that only 70a are available for these cars. how come they had preinstalled aircon with 70a? any ideas on where to get a 120a for my setup?
can the pulley on the alternator be replaced?
